Abu Rayhan Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Biruni (973 – c. 1048 CE) was a Muslim scholar from Khwarazm who excelled in astronomy, geography and mathematics, and is counted among the greatest scholars of his age.
He measured the Earth's radius with an ingenious mountain-top method, wrote “Tahdid Nihayat al-Amakin” to determine city coordinates and correct the Qibla direction, and “al-Qanun al-Mas'udi” on the motions of the sun, moon and planets.
That is why the app bears his name: prayer times from the sun's motion, the Qibla from the Earth's coordinates, and the sky with its stars and planets — all in your pocket.
